Thank you so much for taking your time to read my Presidency Plan of Action for the 2022-2023 school year! My name is Jira Trinetkamol but at UCI I go by Hugh Young (he/him), I am an international student from Thailand, a Political Science and Economics double major and a lifelong student advocate. And now, as I am going into my fourth and final year at UC Irvine I am running to be your next ASUCI President.
Growing up in a third world country, I’ve gotten to see first hand the value of education in not only the betterment of ourselves but also the positive impact it can have towards the rest of our community. That’s why I’ve always been involved with student leadership, to me it is how I am able to best use my specific experiences in advocacy, communication, and other administrative skill sets to create positive engagement and impact on the communities that matter most to me.
For the past decade, I’ve had the privilege of not only serving in my primary and middle school’s student council, but also as my high school’s student body President. Here at UCI, I continue my commitment to student advocacy and public service through my education and involvement in student government. Through my double majors in Political Science and Economics and my double minors in Urban and Regional Planning and Management, I’ve been able to obtain both a macro and micro-level of understanding on how positive change can be created through policy and executed through implementation. As a school senator I operationalize the knowledge I’ve learned in classes by authoring legislation aimed at ensuring that students at UCI are guaranteed their basic needs and that their voices are represented on all levels of our school’s administration.
As President I will continue my fight to ensure that your basic needs are guaranteed, because I believe that no student deserves to be houseless or hungry on our campus. I will continue to fight to ensure that all students are treated equally and fairly no matter their race, gender identity, nationality, or disability and feel welcomed and equipped to thrive on our campus, And I will fight to ensure that the voices of our anteater community are heard, no matter how small.
I am running to be your next ASUCI President because I believe my purpose in life is to leave the world a better place than I found it. I want to give back to the family that has changed my life for the better and has instilled me with a purpose that I will hold on to for the rest of my life. I want you all, my friends and family, to rest easy knowing that there will be someone fighting and advocating for you through thick and thin. I promise you more than anything, that I will keep listening, keep learning, and keep fighting for you like I always have and will.
